South Rim Bus Tour
As we disembarked from the motor coach in the parking lot at Max & Thelma's restaurant, we were greeted by some old west cowboys, probably from the Cataract Creek Gang, who directed us to the restaurant. We made a brief pass through the gift shop to which we returned later to buy a Route 66 magnet for our refrigerator. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and taken to a table with two other couples. While eating a salad, the waitress took orders for soft drinks and soon we were directed to the food line where we were served our choice of main course and side dishes. I noticed that some other folks in line must have arranged for special meals for one fellow got a kosher meal and another lady was served what must have been a vegetarian meal. We enjoyed lunch in the western atmosphere and made a quick dash over to the gift shop before the scheduled return to our seats on the motor coach. It was good to stretch our legs, but even better to get a good lunch. A lady across the aisle from us remarked that Max & Thelma's was quite a step up from their last Grand Canyon tour experience in which some other company only provided box lunches. Before we knew it we were passing through the Kaibab National Forrest and to the entrance station of the Grand Canyon National Park. |
